People are saying that this is one of the most busiest days of the year at retail and box stores. The reason is because of gift cards and returning gifts.  On the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight my top things to consider before rushing out into the "danger zone" to return those gifts.

  1. Weekday Returns - If you can hold off, it's better to return those gifts during the weekday (when everyone is back to work) and avoid the hectic weekends.
  2. Check Return Policy - Don't wait on this one. You should check the return policy right away and find out how long you have to return a gift. Believe it or not, some places give you until January 15 of the next year to return a gift.
  3. Look For Receipts - After you open a present, be sure to look for a receipt. Depending on the item, many times the sender will include the gift receipt somewhere, especially clothing.
  4. Leave The Plastic On - If the gift looks like something you may not like or that might not fit, leave the plastic on. Don't get to carried away with all the excitement in ripping the whole package open.
  5. Save The Box - If you open it and pull out the contents, make sure you save the box. Sometimes the stores need the box and contents to return the item to their distributors.

The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays with me, Gary Freeman and is sponsored by First Education Federal Credit Union in Cheyenne.
