The National Weather Service has issued thunderstorm watches for much of central and eastern Wyoming until 9 p.m. today.

"A few strong to severe thunderstorms will again be possible, especially over Natrona County," according to the Weather Service's Riverton office.

"Some stronger storms will contain very heavy rain which will have the potential to produce flash flooding," according to the report.

Likewise, severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for much of southwestern Converse and Hot Springs counties.

Nickel-size hail and wind gusts of up to 50 mph will be possible.

Affected locations include Douglas, Glenrock, Laprele Reservoir and Deer Creek.

This includes Interstate 25 between mile markers 141 and 173.

This storm may intensify.

The flash flood watches will remain in effect for northern and central Wyoming east of the continental divide through midnight.

Other counties under the thunderstorm watch are Albany, Campbell, Converse, Fremont, Goshen, Johnson, Laramie, Niobrara, Platte, Sweetwater, Washakie and Weston.

The flash flooding would be a result of the recent rains that have saturated soils and caused waterways to rise.

Likewise, rock of much slides will be possible in steeply sloped areas, especially near mountain passes and canyons including Wind River Canyon.
