Laramie County Commissioner Linda Heath says a committee which was formed to develop a water conservation plan for a portation of Laramie County will resume work again on Monday, May 4th.

The water committee failed to develop such a plan in time to meet an April 1 deadline imposed by the state engineer's office. At that time the office issued a temporary plan to conserve water.

But Heath says the committee will continue to work on a permanent plan "that both landowners and the state engineer can live with".

The long-term goal is to address the depletion of underground aquifers that supply much of the water for the area in question, which has been designated as the 'control area" by the engineers office.

Heath is cautioning people not to expect a quick resolution of the issue adding "it's gonna take a while". Heath says one of the challenges in developing a plan is the varying depths of the aquifers in various parts of the county, making a "one size fits all' set of regulations difficult.

Heath compares the aquifers to "undulating waves on the ocean".
