Wyoming voters overwhelmingly defeated a proposed constitutional amendment that would have allowed non-residents to serve on the University of Wyoming Board of Trustees.

The constitutional amendment asked voters to consider allowing up to 20 percent - or 2 of the 13 members - to be nonresidents. Supporters of the measure said there is a lot of of talent around the county who are closely associated with the university and could be excellent contributors to the board. While opponents said they believed there are enough talented people in Wyoming to serve as trustees for U.W.

The unofficial results from Tuesday's General Election show that 47,539 voters supported the amendment while 112,772 voted against it.
