Holly Reiner, a University of Wyoming Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet from Cheyenne, won first place in the female category during the recent 3rd Regiment Army Physical Fitness Test at Fort Lewis, Wash.

A junior nursing major, Reiner achieved the highest women’s score with a 367 during the Leader Development and Assessment Course. The test is broken down into three parts: the two-mile run, two-minute push-up and two-minute sit-up. Each cadet completes all three and then receives a score based on the Army’s score chart.

“We are tremendously proud of Holly, who is not only representing the ROTC program but also the nursing program at UW,” says Lt. Col. Mitch Day, UW Army ROTC commander. “Our cadets across the board routinely outperform their counterparts nationally, and this is yet another example of UW being ‘Cowboy Strong.’ She, as well as the rest of the team, are setting records at every turn.”

The APFT cadets must pass the test based on Army standards for age and gender to qualify for the Army. To pass the APFT, cadets must receive at least 60 points in each event.

Reiner and other cadets attend the 28-day training at Fort Lewis following their junior year. She was the top woman among 465 cadets in the competition.
