UW Football Coach Testifies Before Legislative Panel

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - University of Wyoming football coach Craig Bohl stepped onto the political field Thursday when he testified before a legislative committee about the needs of UW athletics.

Bohl told the Joint Appropriations Committee that money for recruiting, nutrition and other programs is important for UW to be competitive in sports and to help its student-athletes succeed in both their sport and in the classroom.

Lawmakers will be meeting this winter to craft a new two-year state budget. They will have less money to spend because of declining oil, gas and coal revenues.

Governor Matt Mead has proposed cutting $5 million from UW's block grant and no salary increases for UW faculty and staff. Mead proposes funds for various ongoing building projects and athletics, although not as much as UW sought.
