For the second straight week, a University of Wyoming Cowboy linebacker has been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week.

This week the honor goes to middle linebacker Jordan Stanton. The senior from Palmdale, California had had 13 tackles, including nine solo stops, a sack and one tackle for a loss to help lead Wyoming to a 17-13 come-from-behind victory over Air Force.

Stanton said,

"It definitely feels good. It's definitely a blessing from above. I'm excited about that."

Stanton made a key play early in the fourth quarter. With Air Force ahead 10-7, the Falcons decided to go for a fourth-and-1 from their own 42-yard line. Stanton came up the middle and not only made the tackle on Falcons' fullback Broam Hart, but forced a fumble that was recovered by UW. Six plays later, the Cowboys’ Stuart Williams hit a 33-yard field goal that tied the game.

The one sack Stanton was credited with came in the second quarter with Air Force on the Wyoming 46-yard line. On third-and-5, Stanton sacked Falcon quarterback Kale Pearson for a four-yard loss and forced Air Force to punt.

Stanton joined teammate and fellow senior Mark Nzeocha as a MW Defensive Player of the Week award winner. Nzeocha won the honor last week after the first game of the season.

Stanton adds, "As a defense, to have two players named player of the week back-to-back, I think it's a great thing, and it's just showing the vast improvement that we have in this program."
