Univ. of Wyoming Street Closure Idea Dropped

LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — The idea of closing of a section of 15th Street on the University of Wyoming campus has been dropped for now.

In March, the Legislature directed the university to meet with city officials about vacating or modifying the stretch of 15th Street between Ivinson Avenue and Willett Drive in the heart of the Laramie campus.

But UW Vice President for Governmental and Community Affairs Chris Boswell told the Legislature's Joint Appropriations Committee last week that the proposal met with much opposition in public hearings from students and others.

Cheyenne Republican Rep. Bob Nicholas, who co-chairs the committee, says the idea was meant to get people thinking about the future of the UW campus in Laramie 50 to 100 years.
