The last steam engine ever built for the Union Pacific Railroad is scheduled to visit Cheyenne on Saturday, July 23.

The No. 844 steam locomotive was delivered to the UP in 1944 and was specially designed for the mountainous terrain of Wyoming. It recently underwent a three-year renovation project at the railroad's Cheyenne steam shop.

The steam engine will be pulling the Denver Post-Cheyenne Frontier Days train between Cheyenne and Denver, on Saturday, July 23 according to a Union Pacific website.

The train will leave Denver for Cheyenne at 7 a.m., and leave Cheyenne for the trip back at 5 p.m.

The steam engine will also be on display at 121 W. 15th St. in Cheyenne from 12:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. on Saturday.
