A pair of Wyoming Cowgirls are in contention for national titles at the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) at the Events Center in Casper this week.

Junior Kailee Webb leads the barrel racing with only two more performances left. Webb won the first round with a time of 14.53 seconds. Her 14.61 effort in the second round was good for eighth. Webb finished with a 14.38 second effort in her third round during Tuesday night’s performance. Her three round accumulated time of 43.52 seconds has her in the top spot.

The top 12 in each event will advance to Saturday’s championship round at 7 p.m.

Senior teammate Amelia Anderson is also vying for a national crown. She’s among the top five in goat tying. Anderson posted a time of 6.4 second in the first round. That was good enough to split seventh/eighth place. In round two Anderson came back with a solid 6.7 seconds for 14th place. In Wednesday night’s performance, the senior posted another 6.7 second run. Her time of 19.8 puts her in the running for a national title.

Anderson said after Wednesday night, “I wasn’t as nervous as I thought I was gonna to be, and it actually worked out for me, a little bit there. I missed my gather once, but got it the second time, so that was good.”

She was asked about the pressure of tying to qualify for the short go Saturday night.

“I was just trying not to think about it. The more I think about it, the more nervous I get. So, if I just go out there and make the run that I need to run, usually works out better.”

One Wyoming Cowboy could be back for Saturday night. Junior Wyatt Hageman sits in fourth place after three rounds of competition in saddle bronc riding.

After he was tossed off just before the eight second mark in his opening round on Sunday, Hageman has bounced back. He rode “Sugarland” to a 71-point effort Monday and followed that with 69.5 points on “Heaven’s Seat” Wednesday night. He’s got 140.5 points on two. Only one competitor has posted three rides.

Still with an outside shot in team roping is Denton and Dusty Taylor. After a no time in the first round, the duo regrouped for a quick 5.9 second run Tuesday for fifth place in the second round. They need another fast time in the performance Thursday night to have a shot at the finals.

The last two Cowgirls competing are goat tiers Cori Terry and Casey Reimler. They both had a tough week and won’t make it back for the short go Saturday. Terri went 7.5 and 9.6 seconds in her first two rounds, but recorded a no-time in the third round. Reimler had slower times of 9.8, 7.8 and 11.5 in the three rounds.

The CNFR has two more performances at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday. The championship short go is also at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
