CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The first woman to serve as a Wyoming Highway Patrol K-9 handler has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the law enforcement agency.

Delsa B. Sanderson contends in her lawsuit that she was subject to a hostile work environment and discriminated against because of her gender.

The Casper Star-Tribune reports that highway patrol spokesman Sgt. Kyle McKay declined to comment on the lawsuit.

In May 2015, she began work as a bomb dog handler. About a year later she was reassigned after an incident in which she called another trooper a vulgar name.

The suit contends Sanderson was reassigned because she complained about poor treatment by her colleagues.

Sanderson is asking a judge to award her pay lost as a result of her demotion and additional monetary damages.
