Tribe Wants Riverton Shooting Declared a Hate Crime

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The Northern Arapaho Tribe is calling on the federal government to prosecute a Wyoming man on hate crime charges following the killing of one tribal member and the wounding of another at a detox center.

Police say 32-year-old Roy Clyde, a Riverton parks employee, told them he shot the men as they were lying in bed because he was incensed by homeless people drinking and relieving themselves in city parks.

The tribe made the demand Tuesday after 29-year-old Stallone Trosper was killed Saturday inside the Center of Hope facility in Riverton.

James "Sonny" Goggles remained in serious condition at a Casper hospital.

Clyde is charged in state court with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.

He's being held without bond and doesn't yet have a lawyer.
