A traffic stop for speeding on Monday resulted in the seizure of about 25 pounds of marijuana. The traffic stop happened at 9:42 a.m. on Interstate 80 eastbound 16 miles east of Evanston, Wyoming.

A Wyoming State Trooper saw a small sedan travelling east at 87 mph in a posted 75 mph zone. When he stopped the car, the trooper became suspicious the occupants were involved in some type of criminal activity, specifically drug trafficking after smelling the overwhelming odor of raw marijuana coming from the interior. After searching, troopers located 25 pounds of raw high-grade marijuana.

It was determined the marijuana was being transported to the Madison, Wisconsin area from Oakland, California. 41 year old Gerald Nichols and 24 year old Stephanie Martin, both of Madison, Wisconsin, were arrested. Both were taken to the Uinta County Jail and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. The estimated street value of the seized marijuana is $125,000.
