Traffic Stop Leads To Seizure of 88 pounds of Marijuana
A traffic stop on an eastbound vehicle traveling on Interstate 80 last Sunday (August 4th) resulted in the arrest of the driver and the seizure of just over 88 pounds of marijuana. The 88 Pounds was seized 1 mile west of Cheyenne.
Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Stephen Townsend says the driver, Porn Souwankham who listed an address in Minnesota, gave Troopers permission to search his vehicle after he was stopped and warned for following too closely. The marijuana, with a street value of approximately $528,000.00, was found in the trunk in three duffle bags during a search of the vehicle.
Townsend says Souwankham faces felony charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. Special Agents with the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation are assisting the Wyoming Highway Patrol with this investigation.
It is believed that Souwankham was transporting the marijuana across the State of Wyoming for delivery out of State. The case remains under investigation.
