Today’s Morning Zone To Explore The Over-medication of Our Kids

Today at 7:07 AM MDT, on our Kids At Risk Series in The Morning Zone, we’ll look at a recent story from Time Magazine that shows pharmaceutical companies have recently paid out the largest legal settlements in U.S. history – including the largest criminal fines ever imposed on corporations – for illegally marketing antipsychotic drugs. The payouts totaled more than $5 billion. But the worst costs of the drugs are being borne by the most vulnerable patients: children and teens in psychiatric hospitals, foster care and juvenile prisons, as well as elderly people in nursing homes. They are medicated for conditions for which the drugs haven’t been proven safe or effective – in some cases, with death known as a known possible outcome.

At 8:07, Marvin Nash from The Bullying Hurts Program will be back with us to update us on a National Conferece on School Bullying being put together in Las Vegas for October that will feature several keynote speakers in an attempt to reach out to all areas of  the country to develop a multi-facited attack on the ever growing problem of bullying.
