Threat Made Against Jackson School, One in Custody

A 17-year-old boy is in custody, following a threat of violence against a school in the community of Jackson.

Teton County Undersheriff Bob Gilliam says that law enforcement received notice that a threat of gun violence against Jackson Hole High School, had been written in a conspicuous place on Thursday.

"There was a specific threat of a shooting at the school," says Gilliam.  "In the course of investigation, we determined that a 17-year-old male student at the high school had made the threat.  That student is in custody now."

The juvenile suspect's name has not been released and awaits a hearing in circuit court.

Further investigation into the incident is currently underway. In the meantime, Gilliam says that security at the school has been tightened.  "We always have a school resource officer in schools around Teton County, but we've raised the numbers of deputies at schools around the district.  Particularly the high school."

Gilliam says he expects heightened law enforcement presence at the Teton County District schools to continue through the first part of next week.
