Those Emergency Alert System Tests Could Save Your Life

You've heard the announcement, "This is a Test, this station is conducting a test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS)."

Those EAS tests are run each week on our stations to prepare you for when an actual emergency occurs. After the announcement you hear the awful screeches and tone that are designed to get your attention.

When it's an actual alert, the tone will be followed by information that could help save your life.

Weather this time of year is the usual reason an emergency alert will be sent out by the National Weather Service. This week more than a dozen people were killed by severe weather across the country, Friday (March 2) has become one of the five biggest tornado days of the year with activity in 17 states.

Cheyenne has had it's share of severe weather over the years, just think back to last year's hail storm, so pay attention when you hear those Emergency Alert tones.
