Many have been fascinated with the feats and the stories of mountain climbers in times past. On this day, in 1937 three men made the climb up the Devil's Tower and did it.

Mountain climbing is nothing new in 2016. We think of people and teams who have successfully climbed Mt. Everest, Annapurna, Nepal or even Long's Peak in beautiful Colorado.

But on this day in 1937, two New Yorker's and a Pennsylvanian set out to conquer the Devil's Tower in Wyoming, once and for all.

The men's names were: Lawrence Coveney (NY), William P. House (Penn) and Fritz Wiessner (NY), who arrived at the base of the town in the afternoon of June 27, 1937. After setting up camp, planning and doing a recon of the area, they would be ready to tackle the tower the next day. And tackle they did.

In less than five hours, the American Alpine Club out of New York City, were the first ones to make a 'technical' climb of the tower. Another man by the name of W.L. Ripley, made the climb with a rope and a ladder, constructed by the late Will Rogers.
