You're probably familiar with the Wyoming State Flag that you see throughout the Cowboy State. But did you know that Wyoming had a territorial flag also?

The funny thing about the Wyoming Territorial Flag was that it came about 101 years after Wyoming had already become a state. Another interesting fact of Wyoming.

The Territory of Wyoming existed from July 25, 1868 to July 10, 1890, where it was admitted as the 44th state in of the Union.

As you look at the flag, you'll notice the words Cedant Arma Togae, which is literally interpreted "Let arms yield to the toga" or "Let military power give way to civil power" (let military power be subject to civil authority), which is the Wyoming motto.

It's been said that the story was last told in south Scotland 'let the gown have its dues.'
