The Laramie County Fair has been around for decades and we're getting ready to begin another week of livestock, muttin bustin', shows and demolition derby.

The Laramie County Fair, as we know it today, first started in Wheatland, Wyoming in the year 1909. Hundreds of people would take the train to Wheatland to spend a 'day at the fair.'

In 1909, Laramie County also included, what we know today as, Goshen and Platte County. Here is a list of where the fair started, moved and where we hold it today.

  • Burns - Luther - Around the years 1908 - 1909, the Laramie County Fairgrounds were located at what was known as Luther Burns. Because of a reestablishment of Wyoming Counties. By the time 1911 rolled around, the Cowboy State had 23 counties.
  • The Burns Race Track - From the years 1908 - 1917, the Laramie County Fair was held in Burns. This event consisted of men and women's and kids' pony races, as well.
  • Cavalry Performance - In the arena, the Laramie County Fair was honored to have the Fort D.A. Russel Cavalry perform before Laramie County Fair fans in the early 1900's.
  • Midway At Burns/ Luther And The Grandstands - This was done for fair fans to watch horse racing, entertainment and other main events at the Laramie County Fair.
  • Fair Moves To Pine Bluffs - Circa 1918, the Laramie County Fair moved to Pine Bluffs, which really helped to build up the community. This is where the activities of the fair were held until the 1940's. During the war, the Government took the fair grounds and used it for a German internment camp for a time.
  • Frontier Park Welcomes The Laramie County Fair - After World War II, got going again, especially with the advent of 4-H Clubs popping up all around Wyoming. The fair moved to Cheyenne and has been here ever since.

Hope you can make it out to the fair this coming week. It officially begins in Frontier Park on Saturday, August 6, 2016. Get out there and support our kids in our community!
