A Texas man on the lam for nearly 28 years was arrested after crashing his vehicle southwest of Casper last week, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

A trooper went to the crash site on Wyoming Highway 220 about 46 miles southwest of Casper about 5 a.m. April 16, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

The driver, 58-year-old Beningo L. Galeno-Negreros, had already been taken to the Wyoming Medical for treatment.

The trooper searched Galeno-Negreros' vehicle and found several forms of identification.

A search of the National Crime Information Center database revealed he was wanted on a July 15, 1987, warrant out of Houston for felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Wyoming Highway Patrol dispatch confirmed the warrant was still active and authorities in Texas would extradite the fugitive from Wyoming.

The trooper arrested Galeno-Negreros and took him to the Natrona County Detention Center after he was released from the hospital.

Galeno-Negreros was able to evade arrest by using different aliases and dates of birth, according to the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

He is being held on $100,000 bond.
