I-25 is now open in both directions after being closed for most of the day due to a tractor trailer accident and oil spill.

I 25 is still closed in both directions between Wheatland and Douglas between milepost 80 and 92 due to a crash(details below). Traffic is being diverted onto WYO 320.

Troopers are investigating a tractor trailer tanker crash that happened this morning on I-25 about 2 miles north of Wheatland. the driver was identified as 55 year old Torin Williams from Johnstown, CO.

(he told troopers that he attempted to miss a deer that was in the roadway in front of him, which caused him to loose control of the vehicle and it rolled one half time)

Wyoming Highway Patrol  Sgt. Stephen Townsend says the crash occurred shortly after 3:00 a.m. and resulted in the closure of  both north and southbound lanes of Interstate 25 due to the spill of the tankers cargo, crude oil.

No injuries were reported and no citations issued as a result of the crash. Townsend says tractor trailer combination was northbound at the time of the crash. He says the driver was transporting 201 barrels of crude oil at the time of the crash and about 800 gallons spilled onto the interstate.  The driver, Torin Williams, age 55 from Johnstown, CO was not injured and told Troopers he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway.  No citations issued.

Troopers worked closely with the Wyoming Department of Transportation, Wheatland Fire Department, Platte County Sheriff’s Department, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality and the Wyoming Office of Homeland Security during the crash investigation and cleanup process.
