The virus is mostly a concern for pregnant women.

Concerns about West Nile virus and, more recently, Zika virus have health officials reminding Wyomingites to avoid mosquitoes.

A spokesman for United Blood Services [UBS] in Cheyenne says a waiting period imposed to protect the blood supply from the zika virus is creating a blood shortage.

The regional office of the United Blood Services is asking potential donors who have traveled to the Caribbean, Mexico, Central and South America not to donate blood for 28 days after leaving those areas, according to a news release.

An infection prevention specialist at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center says the Zika virus doesn't pose much threat to Wyoming residents right now other than for pregnant women who may travel to Central or South America.
