University of Wyoming senior free safety Luke Ruff was named Thursday to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division I Football First Team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  It is the first time in Ruff’s career that he has earned First Team Academic All-America honors.  He is the first Wyoming Cowboy to earn the honor since Trenton Franz in 2004.

A native of Castle Rock, Colo., Ruff has achieved a 3.60 cumulative grade-point average in civil engineering.  In November, Ruff was named to the Capital One Academic All-District 7 First Team for the third consecutive year.  By earning First Team Academic All-District honors, Ruff became eligible for Academic All-America consideration.

The Fresno State Bulldogs exploded for four touchdowns in about a nine minute span of the first half and rolled past the Wyoming Cowboys 42-14 Saturday night in Fresno, California. Derek Carr threw three touchdown passes in the first half, and the Bulldogs added a 78-yard punt return for a score and a 14-yard t-d run on a reverse for 35-0 lead at halftime.

Chris Tormey has joined the Wyoming Football coaching staff as the defensive coordinator and secondary coach.

The announcement was made by University of Wyoming head football coach Dave Christensen on Wednesday after Tormey officially signed his contract.Tormey will be entering his 33rd season as a college coach in 2012.

Included in his previous 32 seasons of coaching experience are nine seasons of head-coaching experience at the NCAA Division I level at the University of Idaho and University of Nevada.
