Capitol Square Project

City of Cheyenne offices will be closed from 12 noon until 5 p.m. for the Capitol Square open house and celebration.

The renovation of the Capitol building and other buildings around it cost about $300 million and began in 2014.

The Legislature is expected to meet at its historic home in the Wyoming Capitol in 2020.

The suit claimed that Gov. Mead and legislative leaders improperly awarded contracts for the project, with a price tag of roughly $300 million.

Sen. Tony Ross is hopeful the Capitol Square Project can spur the Cowboy State's economy by providing much-needed jobs to some of those affected by layoffs in the energy industry.

Wyoming State Treasurer Mark Gordon has filed a lawsuit against the group charged with overseeing the Capitol Square Project

A release from the Wyoming Legislature Friday evening says the lawsuit comes after the plaintiffs -- Representative Gerald Gay (R-Natrona County) and Evanston resident Karl Allred -- failed in legislative efforts to stop the Capitol Square Project.

And those violations include the hiring of vendors for the project who were alleged to be contributors to Governor Mead’s election campaigns.
