Richard Cohen, M.A., a psychotherapist and educator, is one of the leading experts in the field of sexual reorientation and the author of Coming Out Straight: Understanding and Healing Homosexuality, Gay Children Straight Parents: A Plan for Family Healing and Straight Talk About Homosexuality: The Other Side of Tolerance.

 

Cohen is the director of the International Healing Foundation (IHF), a non-profit organization he founded in 1990. Based in the Washington, D.C. area, IHF offers counseling, teleconferencing classes, healing seminars, counselor training programs, and speaking engagements. As director, Cohen travels extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Latin America conducting seminars on sexual reorientation, communication skills, and parenting skills. He is a frequent guest lecturer on college and university campuses, and at therapeutic and religious conferences.

Cohen holds a Master of Arts degree in psychology from Antioch University and a bachelor’s degree from Boston University. He has worked in child abuse treatment services, family reconciliation services, general counseling and support groups. For three years, he worked as an HIV/AIDS educator for the American Red Cross.

As an expert in sexual reorientation therapy, both as a counselor and through his own personal experience transitioning from homosexual to heterosexual in the 1980′s, Cohen has been interviewed by newspapers, radio and television media, including appearances on 20/20Larry King Live, The O’Reilly Factor, and Jimmy Kimmel Live. He is the vice president and co-founder of Positive Alternatives To Homosexuality (PATH.) In addition to academic papers, Mr. Cohen has authored three books: 1) Coming Out Straight: Understanding and Healing Homosexuality, 2) Gay Children, Straight Parents: A Plan for Family Healing, and 3) Straight Talk About Homosexuality: The Other Side of Tolerance. Coming Out Straight is available in English, German, Spanish, Polish and Italian.

Cohen lives in the Washington, DC metropolitan area with his wife and youngest son. His two adult children are making their mark in the world.
