Laramie County School District #1 Superintendent Mark Stock says the 2013-2014 school year got off to a smooth start Tuesday morning.

He says he started out his day helping students cross the street in the crosswalk at Baggs Elementary school, and wants to remind motorists that school is in session and they need to drive carefully. He says it's also important for parents to remind younger children of the importance of watching for traffic in school areas.

The superintendent says local schools are crowded, with preliminary numbers showing an increase in enrollment of 251 students in the elementary grades. He says the final numbers will change once no-shows and other factors are included, but he says it seems highly likely the district will see an overall increase when the final numbers are tallied
