Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and C-E-O Dale Steenburgen says  his organization isn't taking a position on whether the city should purchase a property on West Lincolnway commonly referred to as "the hole". But he says it's clear that something needs to be done about the property. The Cheyenne City Council earlier this week authorized Mayor Rick Kaysen to negotiate the purchase the remaining 2/3 of the property which is not already owned by the city. Steenburgen says at the very least the city should consider erecting a fence around the property so that it isn't such a visible eyesore. Steenburgen says he thinks the ideal situation would be for a hotel to eventually locate on the site, because that would create foot traffic for other businesses in the area. The property has sat vacant since a 2004 fire destroyed a bake shop and the building adjacent to the shop which had been located at the site.
