The President and CEO of the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce says Cheyenne Frontier days is vitally important to the local business community, calling it "a second Christmas" for many local merchants. Dale Steenbergen says it contributes 10-20% of the overall annual business for many local retail enterprises in a typical year. Steenburgen says the impact is even greater for some businesses tied directly to travel-related industries, comprising as much as 50% of the annual business conducted by some of them . Steenburgen says that even though last year was a record setting one for CFD, he is hoping for an even better year this year for local merchants, saying he would like to see  business improve by 5-10 percent this year compared to 2011. Steenburgen last week said he expected a banner year for Cheyenne Frontier Days this year, citing the recent drop in gasoline prices as one reason for optimism
