Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says these are trying times for retailers in downtown Cheyenne.

He says his organization has been active in the last couple of years looking for ways to boost downtown business and will continue to do so. Steenbergen  says last year the geographical area of Cheyenne grew by eleven percent, while the population grew by only one percent.

He says that's a problem because it forces the city to pay for an expanding infrastructure while the tax base remains almost stagnant.

He adds that if the downtown business sector isn't strong it weakens the entire community
