Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says the city council did the right thing in supporting a resolution to split the city's Planning and Development Departments.

Steenbergen says he has felt for quite some time that there are significant issues for local businesses in dealing with city government. Steenbergen says the resolution will "diffuse some bureaucratic power" and improve the local business climate.

He is also pleased the resolution will create an ombudsman for issues between business and the city, as well as a ''one stop shop" for licensing and permits.

Under the resolution, Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen has until the start of the next fiscal year--July 1, 2015--to implement the changes. Kaysen voted in support of the resolution on Monday, but also says he is concerned about the cost of implementing the new system.
