Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Dale Steenbergen says the Cheyenne City Council did the right thing earlier this week in voting down a series of proposed development fee increases.

Steenbergen says that although the increases themselves would have been relatively small, they are just one facet of a series of cost increases faced by local business. He says fees charged by the Board of Public Utilities "are not cheap", adding proposed fee increases for that agency will come before the city council Finance Committee on Monday and are a concern.

Steenbergen says in general there seems to be a belief that more government services are constantly needed leading to a spiral of fee increases. He says he's not sure that's always the case.
