The National Weather Service office in Cheyenne held a teleconference Monday morning to warn Wyoming and Nebraska residents to be prepared for large hail, strong winds, heavy rain and possible tornadoes by middle to late afternoon.

Chad Hahn of the weather service said most areas probably won't see much in the way of severe weather until at least 2 or 3 p.m. The Cheyenne area probably can expect the brunt of the weather around 4 or 5 p.m. Severe weather, including possible tornadoes, are a real possibility in the Nebraska Panhandle late this afternoon and this evening.

Hahn said of the tornado threat in the Cheyenne area "I wouldn't say it's likely." But he also said with the churning in the atmosphere it is a very real possibility. Large hail of over 2 inches in diameter and strong, damaging winds, possibly as strong as 80 mph also represent a very serious threat late this afternoon and this evening.

The map below portrays the threat of dangerous weather in southeast Wyoming for Monday afternoon and evening. But Hahn says these kind of weather patterns are highly unpredictable, so people across the region should be ready to deal with dangerous weather, including possible strong tornadoes.
