It is really fun to read about and research how Wyoming became a state. Laramie County is just one piece of the puzzle and has been for some time now.  On January 9, 1867, the Dakota Legislature created a very early Laramie County. Except at that time, it wasn't just Cheyenne and surrounding areas, but initially included all of the present state of Wyoming.

The county was named after Jacques La Ramee who was a French-Canadian fur-trader. As time went on and as counties became their own, Laramie County got smaller and smaller.

Changes occurred as late as 1911, when Goshen and Platte Counties came into being, but Laramie County is still a great county to live in with Cheyenne and Burns being a part of it. It also houses the state capitol as well.
