Longtime Cheyenne resident Amy Simpson has announced her candidacy for House District 41.

The 53-year-old is a music teacher at Hobbs Elementary and Director of the Wyoming National Education Association.

Simpson says she running because she wants to help move the state forward by putting a priority on meeting the needs of everyday Wyomingites.

"We need to ensure that the average Wyomingite has access to necessities like a good paying job, quality education and affordable healthcare," said Simpson. "Right now, these necessities are not being met as they should and I want to contribute to changing that."

Simpson says diversifying the economy, preserving K-12 funding and fighting for affordable healthcare will be the focal points of her campaign.

"We're in an economic downturn, certainly, and we need to diversify the economy to provide new jobs, but pulling funding from education is the wrong approach," said Simpson. "We need to invest in the children of Wyoming as they'll be the ones to reinvigorate the economy if we give them the opportunity to do so."

"I'm ready to be a Wyoming legislator," added Simpson. "This decision is the logical culmination of the 10-year journey that brought me here and I am ready to give it everything I have for the people of this district."
