UPDATE (10:55 a.m. Tuesday)

The Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office has released further details of the circumstances which led to Monday's emergency landing near Rock Springs, saying that a family including three young children were aboard the plane.

UPDATE (9:20 p.m.)

Jason Mower of the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office tells K2 Radio News that within the last 15 minutes or so, the five crew members were picked up by helicopter at the landing site.

The five were taken to a hospital as a precautionary measure. Mower said he was told that they were cold, but otherwise in good condition.

The crew members remained in the aircraft for roughly two and a half hours after making their emergency landing roughly three miles east of Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport. Mower told K2 Radio News that snow drifts in the area made it difficult for responding deputies to access the landing site, hence their use of a helicopter.

Airport staff provided deputies with GPS coordinates of the aircraft's position. A crew member who initially reported the emergency landing had said that everyone aboard was alright, Mower told K2 Radio News.

Mower did not immediately have information as to the origin of the flight, but said further details could be expected Tuesday.

==============================================================

An aircraft made an emergency landing in southwest Wyoming on Monday, according to the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office.

The plane was occupied by a crew of five when it ran low on fuel and made an emergency landing at roughly 6:30 p.m. in a desert field several miles east of the Southwest Wyoming Regional Airport, the sheriff's office said.

"Our deputies are on scene, working with airport personnel and others, to coordinate rescue efforts," the statement reads in part.

The sheriff's office added that the investigation is ongoing and additional details would be provided as they become available.

The airport, in a separate statement, said that the emergency landing did not involve a Haliburton charter flight, nor a flight by United Airlines.

"Initial reports indicate that there are no fatalities at this time," the airport stated, adding that details are very limited.

A call from K2 Radio News to the Sweetwater County Sheriff's Office was not immediately returned.

This story will be updated as further information is made available.
