SHERIDAN, Wyo. (AP) — A 42-year-old Sheridan man accused of burning his newborn baby with a cigarette and taping a pacifier to the child's mouth has been sentenced to two years of probation.

District Judge William Edelman sentenced Joseph Fauber this past week after suspending jail terms for one count of felony child abuse and one count of misdemeanor endangering children.

The sentence followed a plea agreement.

Defense attorney Angela Long said Fauber has taken parenting classes and has been working to get his children back from the state Department of Family Services.

Fauber said he disagreed with the state's findings in the case, saying he never would do such a thing on purpose.

Fauber had faced a maximum penalty of six years in prison on the charges.
