Cheyenne based meteorologist Don Day says Cheyenne could receive 4-8 inches of snow along with strong winds with a winter storm the is expected to hit the state later today [Tuesday].

Day, proprietor of Dayweather Inc., says a winter storm watch is in effect for tonight and most of Wednesday, with the winds and snow making for dangerous travel conditions across as well as parts of northern Colorado and the Nebraska panhandle.

He says the Cheyenne area will still see warm temperatures today with a high around 60 degrees and rain starting this afternoon.

But the situation will worsen overnight, with rain changing to snow and very strong winds developing. The snow and strong winds are expected to continue most of Wednesday, gradually tapering off towards Wednesday evening.

He says the high temperature Wednesday is only likely to reach about 30 degrees.
