LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) — A motion to delay the sentencing for a Laramie man convicted of attempted rape for a 1972 attack has been denied.

A District Court judge Monday ruled the sentencing of Lance David Bean will still take place May 26 as scheduled. The defense had asked for a delay so Bean could undergo a psychosexual evaluation, which could not happen for about two months.

Bean was accused of attacking Sharon Reher in 1972 after DNA evidence implicated him. A jury acquitted him of first-degree murder in February but did find him guilty of attempted rape.

Prosecutors say 24 members of Reher's family have already made plans to travel for the sentencing later this month.
