The City of Cheyenne Public Works Department is proposing a 3.4 percent increase in sanitation fees for fiscal year 2015.

Public Works Director Jim Elias told the city council Finance Committee Monday that the department has expanded it's trash pickup into new areas annexed by the city. He says the department lost $300,000 in revenues due to changes made in commercial trash pickup. Elias also pointed out the fees have not increased since the start  of fiscal year 2013  on July 1, 2012. The 3.4 percent figure matches the increase in the southeast Wyoming Consumer Price Index over the last year.

He says if approved the increase would add about 75 cents per month to the average monthly residential bill. The Finance Committee voted 2-0 to recommend the increase, with both Georgia Broyles and Mike Luna voting yes.

Councilman Jimmy Valdez, the third voting member of the committee, was absent.
