Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and the Cheyenne Family YMCA are joining several other health and safety groups in presenting the 16th annual Safe Kids Day May 4 from 10am until 2pm at the YMCA.

Stephanie Heitsch, Injury Prevention Coordinator at CRMC, says this year's event will include more than 25 exhibits, including 10 interactive injury prevention booths. Those booths are all part of the Junglemobile, which is visiting Cheyenne from Denver Children's Hospital. The Junglemobile is a refurbished ambulance which offers eduction on bike, fire, pedestrian and water safety among other topics.

Heitsch says there will also be a Safe Kids car seat safety check, which will be held in Holliday Park from 10am until 1pm. She says certified technicians will be on hand to make sure the seats are properly installed. Heitsch says somewhere between 85 and 92 percent of all such seats in Wyoming are improperly installed, meaning they aren't providing as much protection for kids in car accidents as they should be.

Safe Kids Day will be free and open to the public.
