Interim Laramie County Coroner Ron Sargent is running for the office. Sargent, a Republican, was appointed to the office last month after Marty Luna resigned his position to take another job.

Sargent, who is a Certified Death Investigator, has worked for the Laramie County Coroner’s Office since 2005. He served as interim coroner once before in 2006. Sargent has also worked with the Wyoming State Crime Laboratory as a special examiner and as a reserve deputy for the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office. He was also a criminal investigations instructor at Laramie County Community College for eight years.

Sargent said many advances have been made at the Coroner’s Office over the last several years including a new “state of the art” facility, national certification of employees and upgraded vehicles. Sargent says he would like to see the office continue to move forward.

Sargent added that the job of coroner is “not just and administrative one, it requires not only actual involvement with the deceased, but also with families, friends, law enforcement and mortuaries.”  He said his experiences at all levels makes him the bast candiate for the job.
