There is nothing that can take our mind down memory land like an old song or a toy we grew up with.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight some of the toys that we may have played with back in the 1970's.

  1. The Atari 2600 - This game was introduced to us in 1977. Households all across America remember playing Missile Command and Space Invaders. We were basically first introduced to the "joy stick" at this time, which became a signature item in most video games.
  2. Holly Hobbie Oven - The 1970's gave young girls across Cheyenne the opportunity to engage in a friendly bake off war. Little girls everywhere asked their parents for a Holly Hobbie Oven or an Easy-Bake Oven, which ever one was available.
  3. Lite-Brite - Hasbro first created the Lite-Brite in 1967, but it really took off in the 70's. I can remember getting electrocuted for the first time when my granddad went to change the burnt out light bulb in mine. However, he left it plugged in and my curiosity got the best of me when I put my finger in the socket. An experience I'll probably never forget.
  4. Nerf Footballs - Soft and introduced as the "world's first official indoor ball" in 1970. Parker Brothers liked the idea that the ball could be thrown indoors without damaging lamps or windows. There are many other Nerf products such as blasters, soakers and other sports balls.
  5. Stretch Armstrong - The action figure was in the image of a short, muscular, blond man filled with gelled corn syrup. If you were to find one now, he would probably be pretty hard. When I was a kid, we wanted to know what the "jelly" inside was, so bad, that I think we eventually took a pair of scissors to him.
