Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says work on a new public safety building is moving ahead.

Laramie County voters in 2012 approved spending $25 million in sixth penny sales tax revenues on a new home for the Cheyenne Police Department as well as Cheyenne Fire and Rescue and other emergency responders.

The city council eventually chose the site of the former Dinneen's Car Dealership in downtown Cheyenne, in part because part of the existing structure can be incorporated in the new building. Kaysen says abatement work to remove asbestos and lead paint was completed earlier this week.

Demolition of the part of the existing structure that will not be included in the new facility is scheduled to get underway on August 25th  Kaysen says the new building should be ready by January of 2016.
