Postal Service Cuts to Save $2 Billion

A spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service says the elimination of regular Saturday mail delivery on August 5 and other cost-cutting moves should save the agency roughly $2 billion per year.

David Rupert with the agency's Denver office says other  measures will include steps to cut down on fuel costs and various efforts to reduce expenses. He says in Wyoming that will include closing a mail processing center in Rock Springs as well as smaller facilities in Rawlins and Wheatland.

Rupert says officials don't expect the closures to reduce delivery times in most of the state, although he says there could be some delays in Jackson and other parts of northwestern Wyoming. Rupert also says parcels including items mailed priority mail will continue to be delivered on Saturdays.
