A spokesman for the Cheyenne Police Department is reminding residents that possession, sale or usage of fireworks is a violation of city ordinance.

Lt. Mark Munari says people cited for fireworks violations typically receive a $150 fine. Munari also says that police will be out in force, including foot patrols, looking for fireworks violations on July 4th.

Munari says the department every year receives hundreds of complaints about fireworks within the city limits, adding ''we try to do our very best to deal with all of those that we can". Cheyenne Frontier Days offers a legal fireworks display at Frontier Park on Independence Day, according to city spokesman Scott Smith.
