The Cheyenne Police Department is gearing up for its 8th annual Neighborhood Night Out on July 11.

"Next Wednesday we're having our block captains meeting here at the police department," said Officer Kevin Malatesta. "It will be at 5:30 p.m. in the community room on the first floor."

"(We'll be) going over the event itself, helping people to plan their event, how to find/get sponsors (and) assisting in filling out any paperwork they may need to fill out such as permits to close streets or for alcohol," he added.

Malatesta says they're looking forward to having a bunch of really good parties this year in all of the neighborhoods.

"I think we had about 30 parties last year and I know we're going to have a few more this year," he said. "It's a great event and a really good opportunity for us to get to know the community and the community to get to know the officers."
