Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says there is both good news and bad news on efforts to fight methamphetamine abuse in Laramie County.

Kozak says the good news is that very little meth is now being made locally. That's good news because meth labs themselves, aside from the dangers posed by the drug itself,  pose significant environmental and health issues.

Kozak says the typical pattern these days is that the drug is being manufactured in Mexico and smuggled into the United States. He says local police are finding most meth is being brought into the county in large quantities before being sold locally.

But Kozak says the bad news is that meth abuse remains a problem, and in fact police are seeing an increase in it's use lately. Kozak says his department continues to aggressively target meth trafficking.

He says that policy is helping to reduce other crimes, because a large proportion of burglaries and robberies are committed by meth users who commit crimes to get money for the drug.
