UPDATE: The Wyoming Highway Patrol says that Chase Sanders has died in a local hospital.

============================================================

A Pinedale woman died in a motorcycle crash 19 miles southeast of Jackson on Friday morning, according to a news release from the Wyoming Highway Patrol.

Jessica Sanders, 23, was a passenger on a motorcycle operated by Pinedale resident Chase Sanders, 27, according to the news release from Patrol Sgt. David Wagener.

They were traveling north on U.S. Highway 191 when it entered the southbound lane to pass two northbound vehicles in a no-passing zone on a blind curve at 8 a.m.

Chase Sanders failed to see a southbound pickup that was pulling a cargo trailer as the motorcycle began passing it. As the motorcycle began to re-enter the northbound lane, it collided with the pickup in a side-swipe passing manner.

Both were thrown from the motorcycle. Neither was wearing a helmet.

After the initial collision, the motorcycle and Jessica Sanders collided with a northbound pickup that also was towing a trailer.

She died at the scene.

Chase Sanders was taken by helicopter ambulance to the Eastern Idaho Medical Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and has been hospitalized.

The pickups' drivers and their passengers were uninjured.

The Highway Patrol is investigating speed, passing in a no passing zone and lack of helmet use as contributing factors in this crash.

This was the 42nd highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 66 fatalities during this same time period in 2015.
