Three Ohio men are facing felony drug charges after a Wyoming trooper caught them transporting more than 300 pounds of marijuana on Interstate 80.

The men were stopped east of Cheyenne on Nov. 21 after a trooper sitting in the median near milepost 367 noticed a pickup with Ohio plates closely following a pickup pulling an enclosed trailer with an Ohio plate.

The trooper pulled the lead driver over near the port of entry after noticing he was traveling too closely to a semi. The driver, 31-year-old Jared Thornton, was reportedly very nervous, couldn't provide insurance and told the trooper that he was traveling by himself and had been to Reno to pick up 4 wheelers which were in the trailer.

The trooper ultimately asked if he could search the trailer, but Thornton denied consent and a K-9 unit was called to the scene. The dog alerted on the pickup and trailer and 311 pounds of raw marijuana, 6,419 grams of shatter and 90 grams of liquid THC were found, according to an affidavit.

The other pickup was located at the TA. One of the occupants, 45-year-old Timothy Pape, said he was just driving through, but the pickup pulling the trailer was registered to him. The other occupant, 21-year-old Andrew Meyers, reportedly had a receipt indicating he'd paid for work to be done on the trailer on Nov. 11 in Utah.

The trio was arrested and all three charged with conspiracy to deliver marijuana. Thornton was also charged with possession with intent to deliver marijuana and felony possession of marijuana, THC-shatter and THC-liquid.

The men's bonds were set at $5,000 cash, but as of Thursday afternoon only Meyers and Pape had posted bail. The three's preliminary hearings are scheduled for Dec. 7 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
